Each year more than 5,000 fatal motor vehicle accidents involve a tractor trailer. Sleepy truckers, intoxicated truckers, overweight trucking loads, trucks in poor mechanical condition, truckers who have been driving too long, all contribute to terrible and horrific incidents on the highway.

The government, through the National Highway Traffic and Safety Administration, or NHTSA, has developed a comprehensive list of regulations that require truckers to keep their vehicles in good repiar, and restrict the number of hours a trucker can drive before taking a mandatory break. Still, despite these regulations, trucks cause crashes.

In the event that a person is injured or a loved one killed in a crash involving a tractor trailer, retaining a competent lawyer to pursue compensation is a wise decision, although not required. It takes experience and skill to thoroughly investigate the conduct of the tractor trailer to determine responsibility.
