Many drivers assume that just because a police officer gives you a ticket as a result of a motor vehicle accident, that you are at fault and must pay the ticket. If you believe that you are not at fault, fight the ticket. The process is not that difficult and many times one appearance in court can lead to the ticket being dismiised or being reduced to a lesser infraction. If you wish to accept a plea on the ticket, remember a guilty plea can be used against you in a civil action if you are sued as a result of the accident. A no contest plea is usually available, and should be utilized as it cannot be used as an admission of liability in a civil lawsuit.
