The fatality rate for truck related accidents is double that involving only cars.Yet despite the seriousness of trucking accidents the Bush administration has given in to the powerful trucking industry and has rejected tighter safety regulations. Such action, according to various safety and insurance groups has put other drivers at risk due to improperly trained truck drivers who quite often do not get the necessary rest before continuing on their long hauls.
While the current administration claims its policies toward the trucking industry have been beneficial to the economy, one must ask themself, at what cost? It seems as though the current administration maintains the same position that many corporations maintain and that is-Profits over People.
