In my November 1 blog post entiitled Nationwide Outbreak of Salmonella, I informed readers about a recent outbreak of Salmonella poisoning. It turns out that the outbreak was caused by contaminated tomatoes served in restaurants. Restaurant patrons in Ohio and 20 other states were effected.

This most recent outbreak of food contamination comes right after a series of e-coli contamination problems. These outbreaks show that there can be major problems with our food sources. Some of these problems arise due to improper sanitary conditions in stores, restaurants and food warehouses. These facilities can be held responsible for illnesses caused by the contamination if they do not follow proper standards in terms of handling, testing and sanitizing the food and the food processing systems they have in place.
